Seasons end in the Northwest, just beginning down south!

Well, it had to happen. We ran our last trips of the season here from Friday Harbor this week. What a great year it was: seemingly endless fine, sunny days, fabulous sightings, and double the fun with the addition of our new boat, the Western Explorer. We leave our hearts with our beautiful Southern Resident Orcas, and hope their winter travels find them plenty of food and bring them safely back to our waters next year. Things get pretty quiet here on San Juan Island in the winter, and the weather becomes increasingly unpredictable. Its a great place to come for a quiet, cozy weekend away, but waterborne activities aren’t quite as popular as the temperature drops and the rain falls more frequently

So, the great news is that Captain Ivan has moved the Explorer down to San Diego for the winter months, where we will be running tours to see what adventures the other end of the Pacific coast holds. Milder weather and exciting runs out to the Coronado Islands are what we are planning on, with wildlife encounters including dolphins, sealions, gray whales and other less common cetacean species; unexpected and adventurous trips are almost guaranteed! We cant wait!

We will  be running from mid December through the end of March, and you can be sure to expect our usual high quality, educational and fun tours in this completely different environment. Click on the San Diego bar on the side panel for more info…….

Otherwise, we look forward to returning to our beloved Northwest come April!! Check back often!!!
