Blog Break

After our afternoon trip tomorrow I will be hopping on a three day kayak trip with my buddy Jason from Discovery Sea Kayaks.

Capt. Pete will be running my boat while I am gone, so our guests will be in excellent hands.  I will post some updates about the whale watching trips, and my kayak trip, when I get back.

Hope to see you soon.

A wonderful comment from Sarah. Thank you!

I always love to hear feedback from our guests.  I think Sarah really hit the nail on the head when she talks about our naturalists.  This isn’t just a job for us.  We really do love what we do and hope that we can make a difference by sharing this wonderful place with others.

Thank you Sarah!

Comment from May 28th trip:

We were just in San Juan for a couple of days at the end of an amazing trip up the West Coast. And out of our wonderful 24 days on the West Coast, I would say 28th May had to be at the top of our list of awesome experiences.

Not only were J-pod in the vicinity and delivered fins and backs galore, but they seemed mighty playful and leaped and bounded all around. Their grace and magnificence was quite magical.

But that wasn’t the only thing about the trip. The naturalists were interesting, informative and great fun to talk to. The sense of values and commitment to supporting the environment around them was also very central to everything they said and did.

We were really impressed and would recommend them to anyone. ….. And I haven’t stopped showing off to everyone my wonderful Orca snaps!

Thank you Western Prince.

11:22 PM, Listening to J-Pod on the West Side of San Juan Island

I just hooked up to orcasound.net and am listening to J-Pod on the Lime Kiln hydrophone. Awesome!

I got the report late this evening that they had turned around out west and were headed back towards the area. We all figured that they would be continuing out to the Pacific Ocean and would be gone for a day or two at least. Like I always say, you just never really know what they are going to do.

J-Pod is back again!!!!

Just got back from watching J-Pod from the beach with my son. It is my day off today and I can’t think of a better way of spending it.

I got the report this morning from Capt. Jim. It is so great to see our old friends J-Pod again!

I will post more later.

Write up in Northwest Airlines World Traveler Magazine

northwest-airlines-article.jpgI just ran across a little write up in Northwest Airlines World Traveler magazine. Check out the info to the left under “MUST DO:”.

I have worked really hard to build a good reputation. It is always nice when people notice.

Pretty cool!

Seattle Aquarium

Another day off, and probably one of my last for the season. Captain Pete drove the boat today and Nan was the naturalist (see her report from today below).

My wife and I took our 20 month old son down to Seattle and spent this morning at the Seattle Aquarium. It was a blast, especially since our son, Brendan, was totally into it. If you have never been, you should definitely check it out.

One exhibit at the museum has several types of Northwest Sea Birds. These are amazing little creatures we often see on our tours. We always explain how the birds “fly” underwater to feed on schooling bait fish. However, we rarely get to actually see them “fly” underwater from the boat. So, I thought it would be interesting to take some video at the Seattle Aquarium and post it here. They really are amazing!
