Western Prince II Whale Watching: June 17, 2016 San Juan Island
I decided to ride along on my day off as I heard there were some whales in the area. Katie was the Naturalist on this trip. We had a fantastic tour with 2 Bigg’s Killer Whale families, the T73As and the T46s. We caught up with them near the northwest side of San Juan Island. They had been traveling north quickly until we arrived and they proceeded to hunt a Harbor seal. This wasn’t a long meal and they picked up again, continuing north. It was a wonderful visit with these animals who spent quite a bit of time at the surface and did lots of behaviors too. Two males in the group were off to the side goofing off. Lots of other wonderful wildlife around such as Harbor seals, eagles, and a Peregrine falcon chick!
