Western Prince II: April 24, 2016
What a delight to catch up with a larger group of Bigg’s Killer whales. (transients) It was a bit of a darker and moody weather day, but sometimes I think that just adds to the experience. We caught up with the T65As, T65Bs, T49As, and T49C just as they came into Turn Point Lighthouse on Stuart island. We then followed them along the shoreline for a while. There are many youngsters in this group and they were in a very social mood on this encounter. Lots of tail lobs, some spyhops, and the kids just goofing off together. They eventually pulled away from the shore and continued on as we left to take a look for other wildlife like Steller sea lions, Harbor seals, Bald eagles and beautiful sea birds. Only then did it start raining. When we arrived back to Friday Harbor, the rain stopped and the sun came out showing a beautiful rainbow. Another gorgeous day on the Salish sea!
