Gray whales, Minke whale, and Tufted Puffins! Whale Watch Report from May 21, 2019

Gorgeous day with a big tidal exchange! We headed south on the search for whales and wildlife. We came across some Tufted Puffins near Smith Island. From there we headed east towards Whidbey Island where we found not one, but two Gray Whales! We watched them feeding for a bit then headed back to see what was happening with the flood tide in Cattle Pass. There we found a Minke Whale swimming against the tide and not making a lot of progress. Next on to see the Steller Sea Lions on Whale Rocks. One was playing in the current as it rushed around the end of the rock, the rest were snoozing nearby. We watched one, of a pair of Bald Eagles, take flight after a flock of gulls. One gull got separated from the flock. Eagle focused on that one. The eagle gave up pretty quickly but was chased back to the rocks by a number of gulls. An exciting end to a great day on the water.
