Humpback Whale Watching Adventure

Humpback Whale Watching Adventure

I love spending time on the water here in the San Juan Islands. Especially on days like today. We had a mix of sun and clouds that made the scenery especially beautiful and dramatic today.  It was quite windy down at the south end of the island so we headed north to search of whales and wildlife in calm water. And search we did! We covered 65 miles on the Western Explorer today, finding Steller Sea Lions, Harbor Seals, Bald Eagles, and the highlight of the day, the beautiful Humpback Whale Big Mama.

I always tell people that we will search for whales from the time we leave the dock right up until we tie the boat back up. By the time we found Big Mama the Humpback Whale we were 2 hours into our tour and had already covered about 45 miles. But persistence pays off! We found the Humpback doing big lazy circles in the flat calm waters of the Strait of Georgia, about 20 miles out from Friday Harbor.

If you’re interested in booking a tour with us, be sure to check out our whale watching tours on the Western Prince II or the Western Explorer II and if you’re coming from Seattle, read more about our Whale Watching Seattle trips!
