We had a wonderful day out on the water with several groups of Bigg’s Killer whales, the T36As, T75Bs, and T123s. We first saw them approaching Boiling Reef, which at the time was swirling around with a massive flood tide. It was an incredible thing to see on it’s own, then add some orcas trying to get against the flood. The whales would surface trying to go against the flood, but they actually were pushed backwards. It was a fascinating scene to watch. They attempted to fight the current for a period of time, then after a long dive they decided to flip and ride the current instead, bombing north with the current at about 10 knots. Very cool encounter with beautiful weather too! We also got to watch Bald Eagles fishing all around in the upwellings.
