Western Prince II: May 11, 2016

Life in the Salish Sea is Humpback rich right now!  A morning charter on the Western Prince started with a report of HB and calf on the west side of SJI. We headed that direction seeing Bald Eagles and Steller sea lions along the way. When we arrived we realized we had the Humpback whale,  known as “Big Momma” and her new calf. We watched them surface regularly, then the calf launched into a series of cart wheels. It always amazes me at the amount of water they lift off the surface when making these moves. The calf gave us one look at the ventral side – can you tell me boy or girl??? – then back to more cart wheels. Great Harbor Seals and Steller Sea Lions along Speiden Island on the way home too. Another great day!!
