Whale Report: August 23, 2023 – T36s and T60s

Whale Report: August 23, 2023 – T36s and T60s

August 23, 2023 – We had two beautiful encounters with two very different groups of Bigg’s Killer Whales today! Just outside of Friday Harbor, we found a group of six whales known as the T36A family. This family has two young toddlers that were having a blast, rolling around with each other and playing. At one point, we watched one of the toddlers playing with a bird and even threw it up in the air! While we were with the T36As, we got a report of another group of whales to the south of us. It turned out to be another family known as the T60s traveling along the south end of the San Juan Islands. The most exciting thing was getting to see this whole family of six traveling together! Usually, the two middle boys, T60D “Onca” and T60E “Lynx” travel separately from their mother and their other siblings but today, all the kids were together! It was fantastic to see all three of the older boys together! We ended our trip by checking out a bunch of Steller Sea Lions and even got to see a rare sighting of a sea otter!
