Whale Report: July 26, 2023 PM – T34s and T37s

July 26, 2023 PM – We left the dock and headed north with a possible report of whales up in Canada.  We made a stop at White Rock to check out the Harbor Seals and their new pups.  From there we traveled through the beautiful Canadian Gulf Islands and went through one of our favorite spots, Georgenson Pass.  After swinging out into the Strait of Georgia, we turned into Active Pass.  Active Pass is known for the really strong or active current action that happens in this location and for the busy marine traffic.  It is not uncommon to have 2 to 4 large BC Ferries in their at one time not to mention all of the other boating traffic.  At the same time it is incredibly beautiful. There we encountered T37, a 44 year old female with a huge triangular shaped fin.  She was traveling with her second oldest daughter, T37B who is 25 and her 2 living offspring, T37B1, an 11 year old male and her newest calf T37B3 who was born early this year.  They were with their usual companions the T34’s made up of 54 year old mother, her two daughters aged 16 and 6.  They made their way out of the pass into the Strait of Georgia and then headed SE.  It was time for us to head back to Friday Harbor after a long run and lucky for us the scenic route was the quickest way home!
