Orcas at Turn Point Light

Orcas at Turn Point Light

September 4, 2025 – We headed north with our first stop at Green Point on Spieden Island. Right away we spotted a King Fisher and a Bald Eagle. We were off to a great start, next it was on to the Cactus Island to look for Harbor Seals. We found several hauled out on the north shore of East Cactus. They all perked up to watch us as we watched them, so cute! Captain JB had word of Killer Whales just around the corner cruising along Stuart Island. We had a lovely encounter with 5 members of the T49A family group of Bigg’s Killer whales. Nan, the 39 year old mother was traveling with her 4 youngest offspring. They included Nat who is now 14 and has a large dorsal fin that will continue to get taller until he reaches full maturity in his early 20’s. We also had Neptune an 11 year old male, Nebula who is 8 and the only female offspring in this group and Charlie II (Smoosh Face) who is now 3. Captain JB lined us up for a couple of great shots as they neared the Turn Point Lighthouse! After this we passed into Boundary Pass and watched them surface a few more times before leaving. We took the long way home and went over to Skip Jack Island and then around Waldron Island finding some more seals and eagles along the way. Another great day on the water.
