Whales Under Mount Baker

Whales Under Mount Baker

July 8, 2025 -Today we began our trip by cruising through the San Juan Islands towards a report of Bigg’s in Rosario Strait. We made a quick stop on the way to check out a group of harbor seals spending some time blending in with the rocks. After chatting about the harbor seals, we entered Rosario Strait to find the T46Bs. This family of 8 Bigg’s killer whales currently has 3 individuals under the age of 3 that were being a bit energetic. They were zigzagging their way up Rosario Strait as we traveled alongside them. We were able to get some beautiful views with Mount Baker in the background and even got a couple tail slaps! As we were watching the T46Bs, we saw a couple eagles flying and landing on some rocks in the background. Once we were ready to head out, we made a stop near the eagles and found some more harbor seals hauled out. We ended our trip with another cruise through the beautiful San Juan Islands back to Friday Harbor.
