Whale Report: July 10, 2023 – T65Bs at Sucia

July 10, 2023 – We had an amazing time out on the water with a group of Bigg’s Killer Whales known as the T65Bs. This family has not been seen in our area for a few weeks now because they were on a California Vacation! In June, this group of killer whales was seen down in Monterey Bay, California hanging out with some of the California Bigg’s Killer Whales and hunting sea lions! This is the first time that this family has been seen that far south, over 800 miles away from where we saw them today! The family of four were traveling together as they circumnavigated Sucia Island, a northern island in the San Juans. We had several beautiful looks at them and even one close pass where they surfaced right next to us! We got a few great looks at the newest member of the family, T65B3! This little calf is only a few months old and while they were down in California, researchers were able to confirm that this little whale is a boy! That makes all three of T65B “Chunk”s kids boys! It will be fun to watch this family grow over the next few years.
