Olympus the Humpback and Calf!

Olympus the Humpback and Calf!

July 9, 2025 – Another day spent in the Salish Sea! We started our trip by heading north towards the Cactus Islands, where we spotted some seals and bald eagles! We headed up into Boundary Pass and crossed into Canada, aiming to go through Navy Channel. We continued into Swanson Channel, where we spotted two humpback whales! We were able to ID them as BCX2075 “Olympus” and her new calf! “Olympus” is a powerhouse mom, with this being her second calf that she’s brought back. She brought back her first calf in 2023 at a very young age of only five years old! She is one of the youngest humpback whales on record to have a calf, and we were all very excited to see that she’s had a second one this year. On the way home, we stopped by Spieden Island to look at the mouflon sheep, and while we were searching the shoreline, we spotted a river otter and her two young pups! River Otters are not seen very often on our trips, so it was a treat to watch them swim along and climb up on some rocks!
