June 12, 2023 AM – We headed out for another beautiful day exploring the San Juan Islands. We have absolutely gorgeous conditions south of the islands in the Strait of Juan De Fuca and we spent the first half of our trip searching the various banks for wildlife. We crossed into Canadian waters and found a large group of harbor porpoises feeding together! Then we headed back into the US and found a minke whale feeding on Salmon Bank! We got some amazing looks at the sleek and speedy whale as they traveled with Mt. Baker in the background! Finally, we spotted a humpback whale not too far away! This was BCZ0298 “Split Fin”. He is named that because he has a split in his dorsal fin that makes a very unique silhouette. We got some beautiful looks at this whale as he slowly traveled along before we headed back to Friday Harbor.
