You’ve arrived on the Washington State Ferry in Friday Harbor and joined us on a whale watch! As we head into Memorial Day weekend you may be wondering how to explore the rest of beautiful San Juan Island. We’ve got you covered. If you’re day tripping to San Juan Island and not bringing a car, there are options to get you around the island, ensuring you make time for the best attractions.
Lime Kiln Lighthouse on the west side of the island is a must do spot for a beautiful sunset
Susie’s Mopeds is a popular and convenient way to get around San Juan Island. The island is fairly small, and renting a moped can be a fun and efficient way to explore it.
San Juan Transit is a public transportation service that operates on San Juan Island. They provide bus service to various locations on the island, including the ferry terminal, Friday Harbor, and Roche Harbor. They also provide para-transit services for people with disabilities.
The Jolly Trolley is a fun and popular way to explore San Juan Island. The Jolly Trolley is a brightly-colored open-air bus that provides tours of the island. The tour covers many of the island’s popular attractions, such as Lime Kiln Point State Park, Roche Harbor, and American Camp. Along the way, the driver provides interesting and informative commentary about the history, culture, and wildlife of the island.
Discovery Sea Kayaks also rents bicycles (in addition to their incredible kayak tours) which is a beautiful way to explore the island. They offer road bikes as well as electric assistance bicycles. If you’ve got the time, they also offer bioluminescence kayaks tours in the evenings, which is a must do activity if you’re spending the night!
If you have a specific location in mind and are looking for the most direct route, there are a number of taxi services on the island, many of which are standing by to pick folks up at the ferry terminal. Some of the popular taxi companies on the island are San Juan Island Taxi, Island Airporter Taxi, and San Juan Shuttle. There are also an increasing number of Turo options on San Juan Island if you’re looking to rent a car for a longer period of time.
San Juan Island has everything if you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation or an actioned packed weekend. Now you’ve got ways to explore the area in every way possible!
