Whale Report: June 23, 2023 – T46B1s+T46C2

June 23, 2023 AM – We headed out from Friday Harbor towards the north where we then stopped at White Rock to check out some harbor seals! There were two adult bald eagles also perched above the harbor seals! Then we got a report of some Bigg’s Killer whales across the border to our west so off we went! It turned out to be a group of four whales. It was T46B1 “Tread” and her two children, T46B1A “Tsakani” and her new calf T46B1C that was born less than a year ago! Her cousin T46C2 “Sam” has also been traveling with them for the past few weeks. They were split into two groups but after some time, came back together and we had some beautiful looks at the group all traveling together before we headed back towards the main San Juan Islands. We also stopped by Speiden Island where we spotted several bald eagles on the bluffs feeding on a dead mouflon sheep. It was incredible to see so many eagles all together and to watch them be territorial over their food!
