Killer Whales Swimming by the Lighthouse

Killer Whales Swimming by the Lighthouse

May 29, 2024 – It was such a dramatic weather day, starting with rain in the harbor and transitioning into a beautiful day out in Boundary Pass. We got to spend a good amount of time with the Bigg’s Killer Whale family known as the T124As as they cruised through some GORGEOUS glassy water. The family of six hugged the Stuart Island shoreline and gave us some incredible looks as they traveled past the iconic Turn Point Lighthouse. The dramatic skies made for a photographer’s dream shots with the whales, the clouds, and the lighthouse all lining up perfectly. We then tucked into Lover’s Leap, a large cliff-side that extends over 100ft above the ocean and drops to over 400ft below it! We found a lone California sea lion taking a nap right under the cliff! What a picturesque place for a snooze! Right as we were about to leave, the killer whales flipped around and started heading north, giving us a second chance to watch them pass by the lighthouse on the other side! What fun!
