Ready. Set. Whale!!
We are very excited to start our 2019 season! Starting this Saturday, March 9th we will be heading out into the San Juan Islands to look for orcas, whales, and the incredible wildlife of the Salish Sea daily at NOON!
This time of year can be quite dynamic! In particular, this is one of the most exciting times to see mature Bald Eagles defend their territory, strengthen their pair-bond, and work on bringing the next generations into the world. Spieden island is also bustling with new young as well and since everything is luscious and green from winter time, it can be quite the sight to see! Steller Sea lions, the largest sea lions on the planet are still around for the next few months until they head north to their breeding grounds. They are incredible to see lounging on the rocks and growling at one another, or to see them fish for skates, rays, octopus, and other fish. Dall’s porpoise can sometimes be seen this time of year and you are lucky to see them, you’ll never forget meeting one of the fastest cetaceans on the planet! In addition to the wide variety of wildlife potential, the scenery is equally dynamic. It’s simply one of the best times to be on the water.
We hope you will join us! And don’t forget, if we aren’t able to show you whales, you will get to come again for free until you do! In 2018 we saw whales on 94% of our tours.

Don’t forget to consult the Washington State Ferry Schedule! You want to look at travel from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. In the early season, ferry times can differ during weekdays and weekends.
Pro tip: If you are just coming over to the island for the tour or the day, leave your car parked at the Anacortes Ferry Terminal as parking is limited in Friday Harbor and 8-hour parking is a few blocks away from where we depart. Be a “walk-on” passenger and enjoy your day with no worries! The ferry pulls up to Friday Harbor right next to our office and our dock!
