First tour of 2018! Bigg’s Killer whales and Abundant Wildlife!

First tour of 2018! Bigg’s Killer whales and Abundant Wildlife!

We had our first trip of the season on the Western Prince II today! And wow, did we ever luck out! We started our tour not having any reports of whales, so off we went to search! Not long into the trip we got a report from another boat that there were some Killer whales sighted so away we went! We caught up with the T2C family group of Bigg’s Killer whales! This is a very special group as one of the members has scoliosis of the spine and everyone works to help him out. We also saw a convocation of Bald Eagles! What’s a “convocation”?? The term for a group of Bald Eagles!! We counted around 17! Nearly 50+ Steller Sea lions and a variety of wonderful seabirds. Spring is truly a special time to be on the water in the San Juan Islands and we lucked out with abundant sunshine too! Our next tour is Monday! Big thanks to off-duty Naturalist Katie for the photos!

If you’re interested in booking a tour with us, be sure to check out our whale watching tours on the Western Prince II or the Western Explorer II and if you’re coming from Seattle, read more about our Whale Watching Seattle trips!
