A Humpback Whale Visits the Ferry Landing in Friday Harbor Plus Orcas!

A Humpback Whale Visits the Ferry Landing in Friday Harbor Plus Orcas!

Today was one for the history books! We left the dock in Friday Harbor to start our whale watch but we did not get very far… 5 minutes off the dock we encountered a juvenile Humpback whale! The whale led us right back into the harbor, almost back to our dock and for a while it kept going back and forth right in front of the ferry dock, this has never happened before!!! What an amazing sight!!! After such a great start to our trip, we went on to see Bald eagles and about 100 Harbor seals on our way to meet up with the T65A’s, a group of Bigg’s Killer Whales. We caught up with them off Eastsound and had a fantastic encounter with some really great looks including at T65A2, a sprouter male born in 2004. T65A2 is the oldest son to T65A, he has a very visible nick just below the tip of his dorsal fin which helps with identification.
