New Baby Bigg’s Killer Whale

New Baby Bigg’s Killer Whale

June 25, 2025 – We headed off today with a stop at Turn Island to look at some harbor seals followed by Whale Rocks for steller sea lions. While looking at the steller sea lions we noticed an eagle perched on the rocks getting dive bombed by a couple gulls. After some good looks at these species we went out to salmon bank to stop and search for whales and other wildlife. Here we spotted a couple harbor porpoises but not any whales. We began traveling east when we got a report of Bigg’s killer whales off of the east side of Orcas Island. Once we arrived on scene we worked to confirm IDs of both the T46Cs and T75Cs traveling together. We saw a bit of rolling underwater but then they continued traveling southwest together. We got to see the new baby traveling with the T46Cs surface often with the small curved dorsal fin and orange coloration. It was great to see these two families traveling together for the third day in a row!
