May 1, 2023 – We headed out for another day on the water in the San Juan Islands searching for as much wildlife as possible! We started off by checking out Spieden Island where we spotted several Steller Sealions hauled out on the rocks, mouflon sheep and their spring babies, and several bald eagles! We continued into Haro Strait and headed south before suddenly spotting a big blow in the distance! It turned out to be two humpbacks traveling together! We were able to identify the two as BCX1419 “Phi” and BCY0994 “Dalmatian”. Both were taking several breaths at the surface before going down for longer dives. “Dalmatian” treated us to several beautiful looks at her flukes which showed off the pattern that she was named for! After a beautiful encounter with these two humpbacks, we headed back to Friday Harbor.
