Timing as they say is everything. Today that was surely the case. There has been a large group of Humpbacks far out west of us, too far to reach on a trip. But this morning everything came together. We had orcas off the south end of San Juan Island, and a group of Humpbacks were a little more to the east than they had been. With our speed on the zodiac, we were able to make a jaunt out west to catch up with this amazing group of Humpbacks. I’ve personally never seen anything like it in the area. It was truly a wonderful display of nature. I think our guests were as speechless as I was!! We had Humpbacks lunge feeding at the surface, pec fin slapping, cartwheels, and lots of trumpet calls.

We then buzzed back over to San Juan Island to visit with the J16’s. Lovely little visit with this group. We also got to see some Bald Eagles and Harbor seals on the way home! Fantastic day on the Salish Sea!
