Whale Report: July 13, 2023 – TParty in Haro Strait

July 13, 2023 – We headed out from Friday Harbor to the north and checked out one of our favorite places in all of the San Juan Islands, the Cactus Islands! There, we found tons of eagles, harbor seals and pigeon guillemots. We continued on into Haro Strait where a large group of roughly 17 Bigg’s Killer Whales were all traveling together and socializing! There were four different families all together, the T65As and T65Bs, the T49As, and some of the T77s. The main group traveling together were all the moms and their younger kids while on the outskirts, the two adult males, T49A1 “Noah” and T65A2 “Ooxja” were off doing their own thing. Also on the outskirts were two of the teenage males, T65B1 “Birdsall” and T49A3 “Nat” were wrestling and very active together. We watched as the two boys rolled over each other, tail lobbed, and pec slapped. To end the amazing encounter, we got some amazing views of the boys and also the main group as they traveled in front of the Turn Point Lighthouse! What a magical day spent with this active T-Party!
