Whale Report: July 14, 2023 – T36s and Mt. Baker

July 14, 2023 AM – Today we spent the morning with a group of Bigg’s Killer Whales known as the T36As. This family was found north of the San Juan Islands out in the Strait of Georgia. This is a family of six, consisting of mom T36A “Leland” and her five offspring. She recently had her fifth calf in 2021 and her oldest daughter T36A1 “Tiana” also had a calf just under a year ago! With the two younger whales, this family is a blast to watch. We saw this family last year when the newest calf, T36A1A was only a week old and it’s amazing to see how much she has grown in just a year! We got some incredible looks at them as they surfaced together in flat-calm conditions. We even got some looks at the family as they surfaced with Mt. Baker in the backdrop as well! A beautiful encounter spent with some amazing whales! We also checked out the Patos Island lighthouse and some harbor seals before heading back to Friday Harbor.
