Western Prince II: April 1, 2016: Gorgeous day with 2 Humpback whales!

Western Prince II: April 1, 2016: Gorgeous day with 2 Humpback whales!

The fantastic spring weather in the San Juan Islands continues! With no reports of any whale species,  we set out to cover some water and see as much wildlife as possible. We made our way into the northern area of islands and found some wonderful Bald eagles (both adults and juveniles), Steller sea lions, Harbor seals, and Mouflon sheep. We then continued to search up through Presidents Channel and up to Patos Island Lighthouse. Mt Baker was out and giving us a pretty incredible sight! We were just about to line up the shot of Mt Baker and the lighthouse when a passenger of ours said he thought he saw a whale! Sure enough! It was a Humpback! We all turned our heads the way he had seen it, and then it surfaced. Then ANOTHER! There were 2 Humpback whales! So we got to spend some quality time with these two whales, one we identified as “Heather” BCY0160 and the other we aren’t sure as it never showed its flukes!

Here are some photos from today and a short video clip.
