Curious Killer Whale

Curious Killer Whale

We had a lovely trip that took across the border to check out the Java rocks. The Purple Camis was blooming on the rocks and cast a lovely shade of lavender haze. We also spotted several harbor seals enjoying the sunshine and a bald eagle soaring above. Continuing, we had an incredible encounter with a lone male killer whale known as T49A1 “Noah”. He was steadily cruising south when suddenly, he stalled out near some crab pot buoys. He is well-known for playing with crab pots and that is exactly what he started to do. He was pulling down the buoys and letting them pop back up to the surface as well as dragging them back and forth for almost 30 minutes! Killer Whales are incredibly intelligent and curious animals. This kind of behavior shows how they interact with things in their environment and exhibit interest in the objects around them.
