Whale Report: July 9, 2023 – T65B Cuddle Puddle

July 9, 2023 – We headed out from Friday Harbor towards the northern part of the San Juan Islands with a report of some Killer Whales in the Strait of Georgia. When we got on scene, we were able to identify the family as the T65Bs, a family consisting of mom T65B “Chunk” and her three offspring. The family was very active, with all three of the kids breaching, wrestling, and cuddling together. At one point, they all took off, with the youngest, T65B3 porpoising to keep up! This little whale is only a few months old and was having a blast doing all sorts of adorable baby breaches! Killer Whale families are incredibly tight-knit and it was incredible to get a glimpse into their lives as they socialized and bonded together. What a special encounter with a special group of whales.
