Whale Report: June 1, 2023 – T123s in Captains Pass

June 1, 2023 – We headed off the dock in Friday Harbor early with a report of some animals very far away to the north! We traveled over 25 miles to reach them just as they were going through a gorgeous pass called Captain’s Pass. It turned out to be a well-known family of Bigg’s Killer Whales, the T123s! This family of four has a very impressive adult male known as T123A “Stanley”. They were cruising along the shoreline and then eventually moved out into the middle of a channel known as Trincomali. We got some beautiful looks of these whales as they zigzagged their way north. The backlight blows were stunning to see. After an incredible encounter with them, we headed back south towards the main San Juan Islands and home.
