Bigg’s Killer Whales Inter-Island

Bigg’s Killer Whales Inter-Island

July 17, 2025  – We left the dock today with a potential report of orca near Sucia Island Marine State Park. As we were leaving the harbor, Captain JB communicated with nearby captains to determine which areas had not yet been searched. There was a team moving through the San Juans Islands, as well as a team traveling Presidents Channel, so we decided to go over the top of Waldron through Boundary Pass. While we were searching Boundary Pass, we got the call that another team had found the family of orca on the East side of Orcas Island. Once we arrived in the area, we found T36A and 3 of her family members spending some time together. They were making a lot of direction changes and in no rush to go anywhere. The weather conditions were beautiful and we had some spectacular looks of this family especially T36A3, whose dorsal fin is beginning to grow larger as he nears his sprouting age. After our time with this family of Bigg’s Killer Whales, we had a very peaceful trip through the San Juan Islands back to Friday Harbor.
