Western Explorer AM: July 27, 2016

It was a fantastic morning on the Western Explorer with Captain JB at the helm! We started out looking at Bald eagles, Harbor seals, and jellyfish before heading over to see the orcas. Part of J pod was headed south from Canada, so to the north we went! Caught up with Group A of J pod coming down quite quickly near Turn Point on Stuart Island. We got to see L87 “Onyx”, J26 “Mike”, J37 “Alki” and her calf J52″Sonic”. It was a stunning day out there too. Sunshine, flat seas, and orcas galore! As we headed home, we got a brief glimpse of J2 “Granny”, estimated to be 105 years old.
