Whale Report: June 22, 2023 – Exotic Bigg’s Killer Whales

June 22, 2023 PM – Today we got to see some “exotic” Bigg’s Killer Whales! We had a beautiful encounter south of the San Juan Islands with the T85s and the T46B1s+T46C2. This was a group of eight whales from two separate families traveling together. The T85s are a group of whales that we have not seen in our area before! T85 “Eve” was born before 1977 and has a very unique dorsal fin with a large notch and a wave in it. She was traveling with two of her offspring, a large male T85B and her younger child T85D. There was a young calf traveling with their mom and older siblings known as the T46B1s. It’s always fun to meet new whales! The conditions were gorgeous with flat-calm waters and blue skies. We also got a chance to check out some of our Steller Sea Lions before heading back to Friday Harbor.
