Orcas by Friday Harbor

Orcas by Friday Harbor

June 19, 2025 – We had a lovely warm sunny afternoon with flat calm seas to our north, so off we went. Our first stop today was in the Cactus Islands where we spotted a majestic bald eagle perched high in a tree and several harbor seals lounging on a rock. Next it was on to Canada to look for whales. We first spotted 8 Orcas just east of Moresby Island! The group was comprised of 2 families of Bigg’s Killer Whales, the T65B’s and T75B’s! The two mother’s, 32 year old T65B – Chunk and her offspring, 14 year old Birdsall, 6 year old Corvus and 2 year old Rook; 30 year old T75B- Pebbles and her offspring, 10 year old Jasper, 8 year old Rubble and 4 year old Petra. They were traveling in a tight group along the Moresby shoreline. At one point they spread out a little and Birdsall, the big teenage male breached and Pebbles did some nice tail slaps with her notched up tail fluke. After a great encounter with the whales we headed to White Rock and Flat Top Wild Life Refuges to check out more harbor seals and a Bald Eagles nest before heading for home.
