The T60 Brothers and a Humpback

The T60 Brothers and a Humpback

September 25, 2025 – Today we knew was going to be a long run. We headed north up into Canada with Captain JB picking a beautiful route through the Canadian Gulf Islands. The seas were calm and we had overcast skies which can be great for spotting whales. Eventually we entered the Strait of Georgia and encountered two members of the T60 matriline. We had T60D a 21 year old male who was traveling with his 17 year old brother, T60E – Lynx. These 2 dispersed from their family group a few years ago and are always together. Today they were zigzagging and traveling about 50 – 100 yards, possibly looking for their next meal. After some good looks Captain JB had located a humpback whale near by and we headed in this direction.  It circled in a small area and during our encounter it took a bright orange poop, rolled at the surface and did some nice fluke up dives. The whales was identified as 4 year old BCY1474 “Fishbone.” It had some nice markings on the underside of its fluke. You can find a good picture of it on the HappyWhale app. Eventually it headed off towards Vancouver BC and did a beautiful fluke up dive with skyscrapers as the backdrop. We had come a long way so we made a straight run for home.
