Whales in Saanich Inlet!

Whales in Saanich Inlet!

July 31, 2025 – We knew that we were going to have a fairly long run if we wanted to see Orcas on the afternoon trip. Our passengers were eager to go and we got off the dock a few minutes early and headed north. We had gotten a report that the whales that were heading south into Saanich Inlet in BC had changed directions and were coming back north which was good for us! We started our encounter with a group of 4 Bigg’s Killer Whales near Mill Bay. The family group, the T65B’s included, T65B – Chunk (you will see the half circle chunk missing from her dorsal fin) the 32 year old mother and her 3 offspring. Her oldest son in 14 year old Birdsall, he is in his teenage sprouting years and has a fairly tall dorsal fin already! We also had 6 year old Corvus and 2 year old Rook! They were in travel mode and we got to stay with them for about an hour. Our passengers had so many great questions that we got to cover all sorts of interesting whale topics. Alas it was time to start heading back. Captain JB found us a nice group of Harbor Seals, a Bald Eagle and some Mouflon Sheep on Spieden Island on the way home! What a day!
