Flying Baby Killer Whales

Flying Baby Killer Whales

May 7, 2026 – When we left the dock we had a report of a group of ~12 whales to the south so off we went. We made our first stop at Whale Rocks to check out the Steller Sea Lions. While we were there Captain JB was checking in on the whales we had planned to see. It sounded like the group had dispersed and most of them had disappeared. We made a quick change of plans for another group that had been confirmed and we headed north. We ended up having a really fun afternoon with the T46B1’s (Mom and 3 kiddos), plus Sam, a 17 year old female T46C2 and Rainy, 48 year old T11A! The whales had apparently killed something before we arrived. They appeared to be feeding on it for a bit and then had a bit of a celebration. Lots of Spy Hops and the youngest member of the family T46B1D, born in mid to late 2025 did one heck of a breach! After a great encounter it was time to head back. We made a couple stops along Spieden island for exotic game animals and Bald Eagles. One more stop to see the Sea Otter near Friday Harbor and back to the dock. What a day!
