California Orcas!

California Orcas!

July 28, 2026 11am trip – Today we left the dock with preparations for wind and some salt spray in hopes of an adventure. We made a stop right outside the harbor to check out a sea otter that has been spending some time off of Turn Island in the kelp beds. We were lucky to find him wrapped in the kelp taking a snooze. We then made the journey across Rosario Strait towards a report of killer whales near Deception Pass bridge. Upon arrival, the whales had just come back through Deception Pass in our direction. We quickly learned there were 11 killer whales in this group, including some killer whales that spend the majority of their time in California! In total we had the T36s/T36Bs, T69E, T137A, T135, T135C, T135F all in this group. We had an amazing encounter with this big group of whales that was well worth the slightly gloomy pacific northwest day.
