Orcas at Orcas Island

Orcas at Orcas Island

May 21, 2026 – We headed out with a possible report of Orcas off the NE side of Orcas Island. We headed through the middle of the islands with gorgeous views of Mt. Baker in front of us. We checked out the Pea Pod Islands where we found lots of Gulls including Bonepartes and Harbor Seals. As we cruised in the direction of the whales our passengers spotted some Harbor Porpoise as they were surfacing in the upwellings. We could see the whales ahead and they were zigzagging back and forth but eventually started cruising down the Orcas Island shoreline. Today we had 47 year old T100 – Hutchins traveling with 2 of her 4 offspring. The male with the large dorsal fin is 24 year old Laurel – T100C. They also had her youngest of 3 daughters traveling with them, 12 year old Estrella. It was beautiful to watch them cruising in the dark green waters along the shoreline. When it was time to go, Captain JB decided to take us a little out of our way so we could check out the Steller Sea Lions on Whale Rocks. These are the largest Sea Lions in the world and love to hang out in Cattle Pass where there are often strong currents and upwellings providing lots of food for these massive animals.
