Bigg’s Orcas and Humpbacks

Bigg’s Orcas and Humpbacks

March 28, 2026 – We headed north from Friday Harbor up to Green Point where we spotted several large Steller Sea Lions hanging out on the shoreline. From there, we continued further north, across the Canadian border, where we caught up with a group of Bigg’s Killer Whales. This group originally started out as 10 whales traveling together but as we arrived on scene, they had split into five and five with the family known as the T36As heading to the east and the T86A1s and T124A4s continuing north. We stayed with the two north traveling families and watched as several of their youngsters started chasing a Common Murre! Eventually, we got another report of two humpback whales close by and so we headed over to check out BCX1068 “Split Fluke” and BCX1193 “Zig Zag”. We had a beautiful fluke from “Split Fluke”, spotting the split on the left side of her fluke that she was named after.
