May 4, 2026– Spring is here in the San Juan Islands! We were lucky to enjoy some sun this Monday morning. We started the trip headed north up San Juan Channel and very quickly encountered the T49A’s, an infamous family of Bigg’s killer whales, engaged in a hunt! We were treated to lots of surface displays, especially by the newest baby! We eventually moved on to check out another report of humpbacks just 7 miles away, and met up with Olympus and Kelpie! After getting a spectacular show from this duo (both showed off their unique flukes and one even breached!!), we looped back around the backside of Spieden Island. We spotted a few harbor seals hauled out, then watched some very showy Steller’s Sea Lions before returning back to Friday Harbor.
