Rare Surface Activity

Rare Surface Activity

July 6, 2026– Boy, was today one for the books! We started the afternoon heading south down San Juan Channel, and made a stop at Whale Rocks to see a haul out of some massive Steller sea lions. We continued on southeast, and eventually met up with the T46B matriline, plus T46C2! Surface activity is pretty rare for our Bigg’s killer whales, so this much activity was an incredibly special gift!! We’re not 100% sure what was happening during this encounter, but it appeared that the family was playing pretty aggressively with their youngest member. To top things off, we made a stop to check out some harbor seals, and a sea otter on our way home.
