August 6 2026 PM – We headed north with a report of Bigg’s Killer Whales up in Canada. On the way we made a stop at White Rock to check out several Harbor Seals that were hauled out on the rocks. From there it was not too long before we were in Canada and we started our encounter off Monarch Head, Saturna Island. The whales were spread out and after about 10 minutes headed into a “no go zone for all boats” We decided to go and check out some other places in the area and wait for them to pass through the zone. Well they picked up their speed and before we knew it they were coming around East Point and heading into the Strait of Georgia. They quickly spread out, presumably in search for food. We did get to see all of the T36/T36B family group although some were distant views. The whales we saw included T36 – Flapjack, her second oldest daughter T36B – Tattertip with her 3 offspring Bhotia, Greenfelder and Auk and one grand offspring named Maple. They were traveling with T137 – Jack is a huge mature male at 24 years of age. He is the one with the big fin with 2 nicks in the trailing edge. We got some great looks at Jack and Greenfelder. Greenfelder snuck up behind us as she was crossing over to hook up with Jack. We had come a long way and eventually we had to head back to the dock. There were lots of smiles as cruised home in beautiful sunshine and calm waters!
