Whale Sightings in the San Juans

Whale Sightings in the San Juans

September 7, 2026– Captain Ivan started our morning taking us north to Green Point on Spieden Island, where we were able to find a few Steller sea lions! This seemed to be our good luck charm for the day, as we continued up through the Cactus Islands and found a haul out of some harbor seals! After a beautiful cruise through this area, we heard of a report of animals to the west of us so we hit the road. On the north end of Waldron Island, we met up with one of our favorite families, the T49As, a family of 6 whales! They showed off a number of cool behaviors, like logging and even a spyhop from mom T49A, “Nan”! We cruised the shoreline with the family for a nice chunk of time, before we had to head back toward home. We made one last stop at Turn Reef to see Alfredo the sea otter before we returned to the dock.
