August 31, 2026– August is winding to a close, but the whales are most certainly not! Captain Ivan brought us down the channel to Deadman’s Rock to see a gorgeous bald eagle, then over to Whale Rocks to see a haul out of our massive steller sea lions! These boys gave us quite a show before we departed to search down south. Down in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, we found an unlikely pair of killer whales, T065A3 “Amir” and T049A2 “Jude”. These 19-year old boys were known as the “Butcher Boys” when they used to travel together some years ago and were known to terrorize our local seals! They haven’t been seen together recently, until today! We spent a nice chunk of our morning travelling alongside these boys, before we had to make the turn back north. On our way home, we found a haul out of harbor seals, and even had time to stop at Turn Reef to see Alfredo the sea otter!
